Happy new year from my iPad.
Embeded computer for at home, what to build?
Arduino, Rasberry Pi, Basic Stamp, and many more. You can do so much these days. Build a personal computer for under $100.00. Build home monitoring systems. Build robots. Build anything. I’ve got an Arduino and a basic stamp and am waiting to get a Rasberry Pi. Microcontrollers are awesome. Build and program whatever you want. Open Source computers are awesome, build a capable computer on a shoestring. Put the computers anywhere and everywhere. Build solar powered computers. Build a helmet like Daft Punk. Build some AI. Build a drone. I need to get to work. What to build?
Old toys I used to play with when I was a kid.
Here is a picture of some toys I got for my birthday this year. There are some neat ones. There is a transformer bulldozer, bulldozer with it’s rubber tracks in good shape yet, pickup with snow plow, rally car with it’s spare tire intact on the roof yet, and a bunch of other neat toy cars.
While I was playing with the camera I thought I would take a photo of my Dad’s old Mamiya SLR camera.
The style of the old cameras is really nice. I like that some of the new cameras are going back to the old style look.
The Time of too Much.
There is to much too do and too little time. How do you fit it all in? Games to play, projects to do, movies to watch, books to read, study for work, friends and family to hang out with, chores to do, places to go. I guess I have the problem of too many distractions which makes it hard to get any one thing done. Current projects I’m working on are a wall computer and some Daft Punk style helmets with all the cool lights etc. I’ve also got Steampunk projects in various states of being built and lots of books to read. How do you get it all done? I must work on this thing called concentration.
There is so much to do these days.
I remember when I was a kid. I was into games pretty big but with limited money I would just get one game and play with it for several months or more before I’d get a new one. Plus back then this stuff was expensive. I couldn’t just go to a second-hand store and get a used game for $5.00. The same goes for computers. Things were more limited at that time. So you’d just concentrate and master a few things. These days you have access to everything and at very low to no cost on the computers, i.e. Linux and the Internet. You can buy a computer these days for $200.00 back when I was a kid it was $2000.00. There is now endless access to information. If all you can afford is the Internet and a cheap computer you’re set. The sky is the limit now. How do you fit it all in?
I think if you’re in a similar situation with too many things to do and no time to do them you need to try to limit and reduce your list. Don’t buy game Y until you finish game X. The same goes for projects, books etc. But with instant access to so much it’s really hard to do.
I’ll try to start this quest of limiting or fitting it all in somehow. We’ll see how it goes.
I need a car
What should I get? I test drove a few cars today. I’d like a BMW 3 series, but they’re expensive to repair. I’d like a Camaro or Challenger but they’re not practical. I’d like something sporty with power. I need something with room. At this time I don’t need a play car so I want something can be both fun and practical. So far my choices are the Dodge Charger, Pontiac G8, and a BMW 3 series 4 door. Today I test drove a Dodge Charger SRT8, Dodge Charger SXT, and a Pontiac G8. A couple of the guys I work with have the Pontiac G8s. I like how they look. I think they look like a cross between a BMW and Pontiac. When I test drove it I decided really fast I didn’t like it. It goes fast which is nice but the inside just feels cheap and like plastic. It handled OK but I couldn’t fit in it very comfortably. The G8 I drove also had a balance issue and vibrated when driving it. I like how the Dodge Charger SRT8 looks. I like its big Hemi V8. I like how it goes fast and sounds awesome. I also really like the interior with all the gadgets and cool bucket seats. I like how the 20 inch tires look, but I don’t like how they feel on the road. I would end up hurting the tires or damaging the wheels pretty fast with the lack of area for the tires to compress. We also didn’t like the sports suspension as much but that also may be due to the giant wheels. I also didn’t like the price as much. For the price of a used SRT8 I can buy a brand new car. So if I could get slightly littler wheels, which should help out the ride, all wheel drive and cut the price by at least $6000.00 I may jump at it. I tried the Dodge SXT. So far the SXT is first on my list. It rides better with the littler wheels and non sports suspension. The drawbacks are the littler engine, v6, and lack of extras and cool seats in the interior. I may be able to find what I’m looking for if I look around more. One other plus is it costs $10,000 less. I also would love to have a spoiler so it looks a little more sporty.
Next I need to test drive a BMW and then look into some more practical cars. For the higher end of the lower end I may test out a Nissan Altima and or Maxima. I also may test out a Honda Civic and a Scion TC.
Star Wars and the Sioux Empire Fair
We went out to the Family Fun Day with one of our friends and their kid and I saw these Star Wars guys hanging out. They are pretty cool. I think they are part of the 501st. www.501st.com
We went to the Sioux Falls Sioux Empire Fair today and saw some cool tractor pull tractors, funny Lemurs, and a few other things.

Green stuff was a big deal at the fair this year. If our house was sitting right to maximize sun exposure I would look into getting some of these.
That’s all for now. More to come.
The Rat Rod Post
Here is the post I wanted to do with all my Rat Rod photos so far. I love Rat Rods. They look like something you might see in a post apocalyptic world. They definitely look like they’re from another world. There is so much to them. If you don’t look close you’ll miss something. I like how they are all one of a kind. Maybe someday I’ll build one myself. They are definitely something that would be fun to work on and add to on a regular basis. All photos are copyrighted.

Well that’s it. Congrats if you made it all the way to the end. I plan on doing better with the Rat Rod photos in the future and featuring them more since they are some of my favorite vehicles. Keep your eye out for more posts on Rat Rods. In the men time if you’d like to read more about these awesome creations you can check out the Rat Rod Magazine www.ratrodmagazine.com. They put together a really good magazine with high res photos and good reading.
Storms and Transformers
We’ve had some really powerful storms lately. I haven’t taken as many pictures of them this year mainly because I’ve been lazy about it. We also had a transformer in town. It’s Sentinel Prime from the new Transformer movie.
Playing with my camera
I saw a cool looking dragonfly today and was able to get some pictures of him. I also was trying to get some good pictures of water drops on the pants in the garden but didn’t have a lot of luck. I also posted soem photos from my phone.
I love dragonflys. They are such cool bugs.
When I was out looking for a car I saw this. Quite a few people in town own Porsches.
We’ve had some pretty big storms lately.
That’s it for now. I hope to do some more posting sometime soon. I have Automania photos and also want to do the Rat Rod post.
